With a pizza unlike any other, Colony Grill provides simple enjoyment, exceptional hospitality, and abundant civic leadership to the communities in which our restaurants are located.

About Us

In 1935, a post-Prohibition tavern named Colony Grill opened in an Irish immigrant neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut. Since then, Colony has become famous for what is now its only menu offering:
a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is best served with the signature “hot oil” topping.
We know what you are thinking…Irish pizza? Grill?
The local Irish crowd – and anyone else who visited Colony – seemingly could not get enough of this unique pizza, which was made even more appealing when drizzled with a spicy, full-of-flavor, pepper-infused creation simply called: hot oil.
The original owners of Colony were indeed Irish-Americans, but they employed some Italian and Eastern European chefs during the Great Depression. These men proudly wanted bar patrons to try the pizza recipes from their homelands, in addition to other menu items, but needed to figure out how to fit a pizza tray on the narrow Colony bar top.
The solution: the “bar pie”…extremely thin crust, smaller in diameter than a traditional pizza, and not too much cheese or sauce so that slices can be easily managed with one hand, fittingly leaving the other hand free to hold a glass.
Eventually, across the decades, the hot oil bar pie became so popular that all the other Colony menu items faded away, as did the need for a grill. But the name Colony Grill remains as a link to our heritage.
Today, Colony Grill has five “grill-less” locations across Connecticut & New York.

Can I open a Colony Grill?
- Colony Grill is privately owned and franchise opportunities are not available (although we are grateful for your interest). For investment or real estate inquires, please email: info@colonygrill.com.
Do you sell slices?
- We offer a one-size pie, 12 inches across, 6 slices.
Do you offer salad?
- While we do not offer side salads, we do offer a salad pizza, served with or without cheese and sauce, that acts as a family-style salad of sorts.
I’m coming for a birthday party. Can I bring my own dessert?
- Guests may bring in a store-bought baked good for their event. Our staff is happy to assist with storing, presentation and serving.
Do you take reservations?
- We do not accept reservations. We do accommodate large groups (typically 20 or more guests) on a case by case basis. You may email inquiries to events@colonygrill.com.
Do you deliver?
- We offer carry-out at all of our locations as well as large corporate or home deliveries. Please call the desired location for more information regarding large-order delivery options.
What credit cards do you accept?
- We accept all major credit cards.
Is there an ATM available?
- We do not have ATM’s inside our restaurants. Our staff is happy to direct customers to the nearest ATM.
How do I make a donation request?
- Donation requests must be submitted by email to donations@colonygrill.com
Do you have live music?
- We do not offer live music.
Do you have gluten free options?
- While not a gluten-free environment, Colony Grill offers a gluten-free crust made by Still Riding Foods and all of our toppings are gluten-free. Our bar also has gluten-free options, please ask your server.
What options do you have for vegans?
- Both of our pizza crusts are vegan, and cheese is optional. Please let your server or manager know if you have any dietary restrictions.
Is there a bar?
- Each of our locations offers a full-service bar.
Do you serve pitchers of beer?
- We offer pitchers of beer for all draft options.
Do your bars have TVs?
- We have several TV’s in the bar area at each location.
Can we donate a photo for the Wall of Heroes?
- We are always accepting photos for display on our Wall of Heroes and would be honored to receive your submission. Please send to:
